MARILYN has been "creating" textiles since seventh grade.
In I990, Marilyn, inspired at the Biennial Convention of Women's League for Conservative Judaism, created her first tallit of silk noile. Delighted with her success, she delved into Halachah concerning tallitot to insure that her tallitot were Halachically correct.
Her challah and matzah covers met with success as she commenced creating them for gifts for relatives and friends. They are now available through Judaica shoppes and directly from the artist.
The watercolour quilted tallit she created for herself was also her first watercolour quilting project.
The tallit back shown above is from a shawl-shaped tallit which features the ten sefirot in their circles used by Kabbalists on one front, and the female matriarchs in matching circles on the other side. The rear of the shawl is a watercolour quilt with the sunlight at the top. The tallit bag created to accompany it features a pomegranate with approximately 613 seeds hand embroidered in the centre. This tallit is created from 100% cotton.
Another tallit is a shawl-shaped tallit of dupioni silk. The atarah has embroidered in Hebrew, the last two lines of "A Woman of Valour". "She shall create the fruit of her hands". Hand appliqueed around the edges of the shawl are various fruits including pomegranates.
Marilyn actively participates in the POMEGRANATE GUILD OF JUDAIC TEXTILES of TORONTO and become an active member. Her work was displayed at the Silver Anniversary of Toronto's Pomegranate Guild of Judai Textile Artists.
Presentations to your organization or group can be arranged. Click the email link to contact her directly.
Creating beautiful textiles which function as well as being beautiful, give MARILYN much pleasure, especially knowing that the pieces d'art will be enjoyed by the recipients. Marilyn believes in HIDDUR MITZVAH (MAKING THE MITZVAH MORE BEAUTIFUL) She is always attempting to go "beyond the box" to create very special, meaningful, and functional pieces of liturgical TEXTILE art.
